HIGH SCHOOL COURSE SIGN-UPS
The process begins with an 8th grade parent information meeting at York High School in February or March. Parents are able to meet some High School staff members and High School students and learn about YHS courses & credit requirements.
Most of the Freshman classes are required, so students are automatically signed up for them. The 8th grade teachers give their recommendations to YHS, as to which level (General, College Prep or Honors) would be appropriate for the student. The only subject that students will "test into" is Math. 8th grade Math Teachers make their recommendations for either Algebra or Geometry and which level, but this recommendation will be confirmed with a math placement test at the beginning of June.
Eighth graders will sign up for their elective classes following the parent meeting. The YHS Counselors come over to YMS to meet individually with each 8th grader to sign them up for their classes.. Students are then asked to bring their course sheet home for their parents to sign. The signed form needs to be returned to the 8th grade Counselor.
WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP
Travelling to our Nation's Capital is truly a highlight of the year! We travel in coach buses, with a stop in historic Philadelphia and then we spend 3 nights and 4 days seeing as many sights as possible. The trip is an amazing experience that our 8th graders will most likely never forget!
EIGHTH GRADE FINALE
This event “caps off” the eighth graders four years at York Middle School. The program takes place on the night before the last day of school. Festivities begin with an hour long program in the York Community Auditorium at York High School. All eighth graders are recognized for their accomplishments. Students then transition to the YMS cafeteria (which gets dramatically “re-decorated” by the 8th grade parents) to dance the night away!
