CLASS LESSONS
During the school year I will be teaching 3-4 lessons on the topic of Internet Safety. I will share information with the students from CommonSenseMedia.org and the NetSmartz Organization. The Learning Targets for the classes are:
- Students will be able to describe technology in our world - how it has changed over the years and what technology sources students are using
- Students will be able to describe what it means to have "bad intentions" connected to technology use. The majority of people using technology are using it correctly - we do not need to protect students from these people or sites. Unfortunately, there are people and sites with "bad intentions". Using the video selections of "Tracking Teresa" and "Julie's Journey", students will be able to describe what decisions were made that were unsafe and what could have been done differently to remain safe.
- Students will be able to describe the connection of the development of the Frontal Lobe of the brain to activities involving decision making. Discussion will be around age limits for access to certain social media sites
- Students will be able to define CYBERBULLYING and describe why it is important to speak up and tell if this is happening to someone and why it is important NOT to Bully in any form.
